Gudrun Seitz, affectionately known to all as “Oma,” was born on December 11, 1937, in Heidenheim an der Brenz, Germany. She lived in Germany for 32 years before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she built a loving home and raised her six children. A devoted mother and educator, Oma touched countless lives as the owner of a Montessori school, where she nurtured the growth and education of many children.

Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Oma relocated to Baton Rouge, where she remained for the rest of her life. Surrounded by her beloved family, she passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 87.

Oma is survived by her sister, Betsy Reising, and her nephew, Rickey Reising (Mary). She also leaves behind her six beloved children and their families.

Sabine Fendlason, and her children, Heidi Dunn (Donald) and James McCubbin (Kaia Pobocik).

Uwe Seitz (Christi), and their children, Mason Seitz (Skyler), Peyton Seitz (Candice), CJ McLennan (Katy), Connor McLennan (Rachelle), and Bronte Hebert (Justin).

Axel Seitz (Donna), and his children, AJ Seitz, Lexa Seitz, and Ariel Seitz Sanderson (James).

Udo Seitz (Cristelia), and their children, Selena Seitz Escobar (Esteban), Danela Seitz, Samara Banegas, and Cristobal Manuel Banegas (Fanny Ayala).

Markus Seitz (Kristina Miller), and their children, Andrew Miller and Alex Miller (Katie).

Ulla Seitz, and her children Scott Campbell (Nicole) and Sheena Campbell (Dewey).

She is further survived by many great-grandchildren, who will carry her love and memory forward.

Beyond family, Oma is remembered fondly by dear friends who became family: Lewis Mendoza and husband Kevin Wiemken; Michelle Everill and her children Natalie Everill and Nicholas Spizale, as well as the entire Payne family. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of the many people she touched throughout her life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Griswold Home Care and Clarity Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during Oma’s final months.
