Gregory Joseph Messina, known affectionately as "Daddy-O" to his children & "Meatball" to his music buddies, passed away in his home on March 31, 2026 surrounded by his family, in Central, Louisiana. Born on May 21, 1955, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Greg lived a life marked by his dedication to family, craftsmanship, & music.
Throughout his life, Greg was celebrated as a jack of all trades, but he owned his own business named Greg's Carpentry.
An avid musician, Greg found joy in playing various instruments, but his passion was playing the drums. His musical endeavors not only enriched his own life but also forged strong bonds with his friends & family alike, earning him the endearing nickname "Meatball" among his peers.
Greg is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Maxine LaCombe Messina. Together they raised 5 children; Trey Hoag, Nancy Hoag, Travis Hoag, Micah Messina, & Sarah Messina. His legacy continues through his grandchildren; Alyssa Lawson, Hayden Hoag, Julian Patin, Katence Patin, Kevin Johnson, Jemma Johnson, Luke Messina, Damien Messina; as well as his great-grandchildren; Noah Wilkinson & Ethan Musgrove.
He is also survived by his sister; Rhonda Thibodeaux.
Greg was embraced in heaven by those who preceded him in death his former wife; Janise LaCombe Messina, his parents; J.T. & Doris Messina, & his siblings; Joey Messina & Milissa Alston.
