“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
Gloria Helen Aime Berthelot, born February 7, 1935, passed away peacefully at her home in Gonzales on February 12, 2026, surrounded by her husband and children. She was 91.
Born in Head of Island, Louisiana, to the late Peter J. Aime and Estelle Brignac Aime, Gloria was a lifelong resident of Ascension Parish and a graduate of St. Amant High. She continued her education at Spencer Business College and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Louisiana State University while building her professional career.
She began her career at Stauffer Chemical Company’s Industrial Chemical Division in St. Gabriel, where she served as Personnel Manager and led employee relations with fairness and strength. She later built a distinguished career with Pioneer Americas, Inc., directing Responsible Care initiatives and corporate communications across nine operating sites in five states. In 1999, she was named Practitioner of the Year by the Public Relations Association of Louisiana and served as past president of the Baton Rouge Chapter.
Appointed by the Governor of Louisiana, she served as Secretary of the Louisiana Board of Review for the Office of Unemployment Insurance Administration, continuing her public service in state government.
Beginning competitive tennis at age 39, Gloria achieved a 3.5 USTA rating and later earned gold, silver, and bronze medals at the Senior Olympics. She served on the board of the Baton Rouge Women’s Tennis Association and was president and founder of the Ascension Tennis Association. By 2000, approximately 200 Ascension Parish residents had competed in league matches. She was instrumental in working with the City of Gonzales and Ascension Parish to upgrade and expand local tennis facilities, and one of the courts was later named in her honor.
For 71 years, she and her husband, Howard Berthelot, built a marriage rooted in loyalty and partnership, raising four children and building a life centered on faith and family. She remained a devoted member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, where she served in various ministries, as a lector, and as a religious instruction teacher. To her grandchildren, she was simply, and lovingly, “Maw Maw.”
She is survived by her husband, Howard Berthelot; her sister, Eva Mae Aime Bourgeois of Acy; her sister-in-law, Peggy Bercegeay Aime; her children Kent Berthelot (JoAnn), Kathi Stout (Lane), Laurie Hoffman (Ricky), and Clay Berthelot (Wanda); her grandchildren Christian Berthelot (Josie), Mitchel Courville, Dylan Berthelot, Tiffany Mouch Vincent, Misty Mouch Millet (David), Trey Mouch (Brandice), Clint Hoffman (Brandy), Cody Hoffman (Destiny), Ashley Berthelot Denton (Sam), Chase Berthelot (Emily); 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
"She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter J. Aime and Estelle Brignac Aime, her siblings, Belva Aime Robertson and Ronnie Aime, and brother-in-law, Joseph "Frankie" Bourgeois, and Tex Robertson.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her longtime private caregivers, Reba LeBlanc, Debra Samuel, and Adrianne Oatis. They also thank the Amedisys Home Health staff, Kelly English, RN, and Tabitha James, Aide, for their compassion and devoted care.
Visitation will be held February 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Huy Tran.
