Glen Michael Richard

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Glen Michael Richard, who died August 17, 2025, at the age of 83 following several weeks of acute care at Our Lady of the Lake RMC in Baton Rouge. Glen was born September 19, 1941, in Houma, Louisiana, the son of Laywood and Marie Ellender Richard. 

He attended Terrebone High School but graduated from Marion Military Institute in Alabama where he lettered in football and baseball. Later, he transferred to LSU where he graduated with a Bachelor of Art degree (1965) and a Master of Science degree (1966). With numerous cousins, there were often times spent fishing, summers spent in Grand Isle and sharing special holidays together. He started his career as a pharmaceutical representative in Florida where he worked for Upjohn and Glaxo Pharmaceutical companies. 

After several years, he relocated to Houma and started his own company Delta Drugs. Upon its closure he moved to Laughlin, Nevada, where he worked for a casino as a dealer. His love for people and his talent for telling jokes made him very popular. He also enjoyed working with numbers and had a photographic memory. He continued working in the casino business when he returned to Baton Rouge. 

Glen truly enjoyed art and created little gifts for those he loved. His distinctive handwriting could pass for calligraphy. Known for being a comedian, everyone enjoyed his jokes when told in his Cajun accent. Glen was quite the character and full of life and an avid LSU fan. 

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, September 10, at 9:30 am. The funeral mass will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a reception in the parish activity center from 11:00 - 12:30. 

He is survived by his brother Wayne Richard (and son Remy Richard) and his sister Cindy Richard Murphy (and her sons Jeremy and Aaron Walpole). Glen is proceeded in death by his parents Laywood and Marie Richard, his maternal grandparents Henry and Jesse Ellender, his paternal grandparents Walter and Alice Richard and his godparents Leonce Richard and Jessie Ellender Henchy. 

He enjoyed his last four years while living at La Plantation Retirement Center in Denham Springs where he developed many friendships. The residents elected him King of Carnival and he was voted their representative to management. The staff remembers Glen as a generous, courteous and thoughtful man. 

The family is grateful for the wonderful care that Glen received from the attentive staff at La Plantation, Our Lady of the Lake RMC, and devoted friend Dot Wilson. Special thanks to all his cousins and friends who enriched his life. 

Glen now rests in God’s loving arms.
