Gerald W. Lazarus Sr., also known affectionately to many as Papa, born on October 7, 1943, passed away at his home in Walker, Louisiana on April 23, 2025, Surrounded by his family.
He was welcomed into his eternal home by his Parents Luther and May Albin Lazarus and his 11 brothers and sisters, Joyce Lofton, Helen Buche, Raynelle Matherne, Eloise Savoy, Betty Marie Armstrong, Peggy Jones, Carl, Rayford, Richard, Bobby, and Guy.
Gerald was the beloved husband of Janice Gaudin Lazarus, with whom he shared 60 fun and memorable years of marriage. Their love gave them three children that he considered his greatest accomplishments: Milissa Lazarus Reyna (Juan), Mamie Lazarus Moffett (Sean), and Gerald W. Lazarus Jr. (Tonya); He had his best years entertaining and teaching his grandchildren all about the things he loved to do: Tory Lazarus, Courtney Hunt (Luke), Cody Moffett (Hailie), and Breanna Moffett (Todd), Tripp Lazarus; as well as his great-grandchildren whom he adored: Wyatt and Easton Lazarus, Alanna Faye, Theo and Jaxson Hunt. Addie and Roman Hukins, Paizlee, Wrenley, and Stetson Moffett. He also had bonus kiddos Conner, Mikaelynn and JT He would light up when they walked in the room, as he could let the kid in him out for a while.
Gerald was a skilled electrician in his younger years and later he dedicated many years to his trade as a heavy equipment operator. He was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 406, where he retired to spend more time doing the things he enjoyed most. Spending a large part of time with family and friends as well as raising his livestock, chickens, pigs, rabbits , dogs, gardening and growing his fruit trees, that all the community loved to come by and get.
Known for his jovial personality, his pranks and picking, he had a remarkable ability to bring smiles to those around him. He cherished opportunities to visit with friends and share stories, always bringing warmth and laughter wherever he went. You could always find him at the Amite Stockyard on Tuesdays and Saturdays looking to see what they had worth looking at and then to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
Gerald’s legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired, the love he gave freely, and the memories cherished by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at New Beginnings Baptist Church, 9768 Florida Blvd, Walker, Louisiana, 70785, on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the Funeral Service beginning at NOON. Burial to follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, 24063 LA-16, Denham Springs, Louisiana, 70726.
