Gaynell “Gay” Batts, born in Baton Rouge, LA on August 3, 1937, passed away at his home in St. Amant, LA on December 10, 2023, at the age of 86. Gay was a loyal employee for over 30 years with the Highway Department, working as a highway engineer. He worked with Port of Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish Road Inspection. He enjoyed cars, boats, motorcycles, scuba diving, and was an avid LSU fan. His most cherished role was grandpa, spending time and making memories with his grandchildren as often as he could. Gay is survived by his daughter, Mallory Batts Oubre and husband, David John; grandchildren, Rhyley Arin Oubre and Piper Julien Oubre; brother, James Lee Batts; nephew, Tony Batts and wife, Dana; niece-in-law, Lori Batts; great nieces and nephews, Brandi Roth and husband, Matt and their children Rowan and Finn, Nicholas Batts and wife, Margeaux and their children, Damian and Vivian, Lane Batts, Hunter Batts. He is preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Gautreaux Batts; parents, Fred Hicks Batts and Vivian Cecil Cannon Batts; nephew, Timothy Gay Batts. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at New River Baptist Church of St. Amant from 10am until service time at 12pm. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rhyley, Matt, Nick, Lane, Chris, and Hunter will serve as pallbearers.
