Floyd R. Roy, Jr.

November 28, 1948 — February 16, 2024

Baton Rouge

Floyd R. Roy, Jr. also lovingly known as “Moose,” passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Floyd was born on November 28, 1948 in New Orleans, LA.  He was 75 years old.

Floyd grew up in St. Bernard Parish and graduated from Chalmette High School in 1966.  He continued his education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1971.  He worked for J. Ray McDermott for over 30 years both in the United States and internationally.  During his healthy years, Floyd enjoyed playing tennis, basketball and golf.  He lived life to the fullest and was always up for the next travel adventure.  He looked forward to annual family vacations from the beaches to the mountains.  He cherished spending time with his family and friends.  Floyd was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. George Parish.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.  In his later years he enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, reading and savoring his sweet tooth.  Despite the toll Parkinsons took on his body, he always had a positive outlook on life and a witty sense of humor.

Floyd is survived by his devoted and caring wife of 53 years, Charlene Montegut Roy, his four children: Kimberly Roy Abercrombie (Nathan), Ashley Roy Voitier (Matthew), Carrie Michelle Roy, Colin Montegut Roy (Courtney), his six grandchildren whom he dearly loved: Nathan Abercrombie Jr., Caroline Abercrombie, Juliette Voitier, Matthew Voitier, Charlotte Roy, Elizabeth Roy, his sister June Ann Edgett, his brother Patrick Couvillon Roy (Elizabeth), his niece, Deborah Thibodeaux (James), nephews: William Edgett (Cindy), Austin Roy (Kelcey), Ryan Roy (Paige) and Cole Roy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd R. Roy, Sr. and Hazel Couvillon Roy.  Although our hearts are filled with sorrow, we celebrate a life well lived, full of love, family and friends.  We will forever cherish our memories of “Moose.”  May he rest in eternal peace.

A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Roy family to the entire staff at Amedisys Hospice Care, Serenity Private Care and The Crossing at Clarity Hospice.  The Roy family would also like to thank his compassionate caregivers Jackie Muse, O’Tang Achale and Stephen Dupar.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70809.  Visitation will begin at 9:30am followed by Funeral Mass at 11am.   Interment will be private at a later date.
