Eugene Franklin Edmonds, known to most as Gene, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the War Veterans home in Jackson, Louisiana. A long-time resident of Winnfield, Louisiana, Gene was born February 19, 1944. He graduated from Winnfield High School and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

The son of Eugene Earlin (Bill) and Mae Juanita Edmonds, Gene spent the majority of his life as a master carpenter. He loved having the gift of building any and everything with his talented hands and was known for his infectious laugh and enormous personality. On any beautiful, sunny day Gene could be seen riding his beloved Harley and he spent his Saturdays watching LSU football.

Survivors include one daughter, Natalie Jeanne Mixon and husband Lucien of Geismar, Louisiana and one son, Ty Eugene Edmonds and wife Kathryn of Geismar, Louisiana. Gene had five grandchildren, Ensign Braddock Russell Lord, Officer Jackson Kenneth Lord and wife Kiarra, John Champion “Champ” Edmonds, Reagan Lynn Jinks and Hadley Kate Edmonds and three great grandchildren, Alaska Rainn Lord, Maverick Carter Lord and Paxton Kenneth Lord. He was preceded in death by his father Bill Edmonds, mother Juanita Edmonds, sister Dorothy Lynn Edmonds Gates and nephew Roger Gates.

Gene’s extreme devotion to his Heavenly Father was unwavering, and his dedication to his family and friends are the legacies of his life. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13

Details regarding a memorial to celebrate Gene’s life will be announced at a later date to be held in Winnfield, Louisiana.
