Elizabeth Ann Staples ‘Lou’ passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026. She was born in Baton Rouge, LA on February 2, 1946. 

A devoted mother and grandmother who loved animals, gardening, reading, and all things food. She will be remembered for her feisty spirit and unusual sense of humor. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and attended LSU. 

Preceded in death by James Truman Staples (father), Aline Marie Hill (mother), Donna “Tutta” Vetter (sister), James Tracy Staples (brother).

 Survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Chesson Richards (Kent); son, Don Chesson III (Angélica); three grandchildren, Cyril Douglas Martin, Tallulah Adrienne Martin, Marcel Chesson Fernández; nieces, Heather Schaefer (Mark); Gabrielle Vetter; great-nieces Ellie, Claire, Ava and numerous others. 

Special thanks to Nancy Chesson and Kathy McVea for their friendship and support to Lou.
