Elisabeth Brutscher (née Hasenstab), born on March 8, 1931, in Gailbach, Germany. She passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 21, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was 94 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johannes S. Brutscher, her parents, Friedrich "Fritz" Hasenstab & Margarethe Straub Hasenstab, her siblings Gerda Ott, Fritz Hasenstab, Hugo Hasenstab, Benno Hasenstab, and Theo Hasenstab.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Karola & Gernot Weiher; her children and their spouses: Franz & Mary Brutscher; Marion Brutscher Kaiser and Roderick "Rick" Kaiser; Else Brutscher VandeGevel and Richard VandeGevel. Her memory will also be treasured by her grandchildren and their spouses: Erica & Kevin Knight; Kristopher & Heather Brutscher; Elise & Andrew Petereck; Annalese Kaiser & Bernardo Aquilera-Pinerua; Nicki & Jeremy Binning. Her great-grandchildren: Christian & Eleni Knight; Caleb Knight, Landon Petereck, Andrew John (AJ) Petereck, Addilyn Harper, and Aubrey Harper.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Elisabeth’s faith was a guiding light that shaped her values and daily life. Her devotion was evident in both word and deed, offering strength to those around her. Elisabeth was an accomplished seamstress whose skilled hands created countless garments that blended beauty with practicality. Her love for gardening brought color and life to every home she touched—each bloom a testament to her patience and care.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Baton Rouge, Gardenview Assisted Living, as well as to Brenda Bates and Doris Smith for their exceptional care and compassion during Elisabeth’s final days.
A graveside service will be held at Alexandria National Cemetery in Pineville, Louisiana, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate in her memory to Catholic Charities of Baton Rouge. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
