Doris Elaine Wells Carmena

January 28, 1950 — June 10, 2024

Central

It is with profound sorrow to announce the passing of my precious, beloved mother Doris Elaine Wells Carmena of Central, LA. Born January 28, 1950, in Baton Rouge, LA, surrounded by immediate family members, she peacefully passed away June 10, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA after a sudden decline in health. She was only 74 years of age.

The second of four siblings born to Aubrey Ellis Wells and Frances Dale Waller Wells, when she was ten years of age, the family moved to where she would grow up and live, with few brief exceptions, the rest of her life: the small community of Central, LA. She was very popular at Central High school and became known for her ability to dance. Her modest and quiet demeanor would disappear as all eyes would turn to her when she took the dance floor.

At an early age she completed beauty school and became a licensed cosmetologist. Shortly thereafter, was married and stationed in Illinois and Texas with her military husband; it was during this time which produced her only child. She frequently served as a parent volunteer at her son's elementary schools assisting students in the classroom and the school's library. Later, she home-schooled her son and oversaw/guided a program which resulted in him graduating on a college level in multiple subjects. Later in life, she worked as a sitter for the elderly and positively touched lives through her compassion, companionship, and consistently going above-and-beyond for her clients.

She was young at heart, enjoyed country and rock/pop music alike, and particularly enjoyed porcelain/vinyl doll collecting. She was a wonderful cook and especially received praise through the years for her delicious potato salad and chocolate fudge oatmeal peanut butter cookies.

She loved the “precious things” in life, was such a nurturing and giving person who always wanted a little baby something to care for, always quick to help others in need, had a great love for animals, with at least one present throughout much of her life; and always there to help strays. She had a high moral character, was family oriented and tenderhearted who loved deeply. All of these qualities contributed to her being the most wonderful, perfect mother. Indeed, her greatest love on this earth was for her only child; she sacrificed so much while devoting her whole life to her son.

She was preceded in death by her parents whom she loved dearly: Frances Dale Waller Wells (mother), Aubrey Ellis Wells (father); both sets of grandparents whom she always recalled with loving wonderful memories: Ida Mae Taylor Wells (paternal grandmother), Edgar Elbridge Wells (paternal grandfather), Ethel Jane Cooper Waller (maternal grandmother), and Wirty Eugene Waller (maternal grandfather who passed away before she was born; subsequently, she never received the honor of knowing him); brother in-law: Robert Edward Maddry, Sr.; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins that she never forgot.

She is survived by her heartbroken son: Darrell Wayne Carmena, Jr.; three siblings: Patricia Ann Wells Maddry (sister), James Ellis Wells (brother), and Kerry David Wells (brother); a particularly close family member who felt more like a sibling: Terry Leonard Wells (first cousin); also many nieces/grandnieces, nephews/grandnephews, and cousins.

Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Please feel free to submit condolence messages celebrating her life below.
