Donald Rupert Watts, known affectionately as Don or Donnie, passed away peacefully at his home on March 12, 2024 at the age of 73. He was born on October 2, 1950, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to Elbert and Vercil (Milton) Watts.
Don leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Della Watts, along with his children, Jason Watts and Jennifer (Watts) Sherrow, and his grandchildren: Aubree (Weldon) Carrier, Ava Watts, Jackson Watts, Chloe Sherrow, and Caleb Sherrow. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Wendy (Woolie) Watts and son-in-law, Shaun Sherrow.
Don's life was characterized by his hard work ethic, dedication to friends and family, and love for the outdoors. He loved sports and cheering for LSU, UK, the Ragin Cajuns, and the Saints.
Throughout his career, Don dedicated himself to serving others. He rose to the position of Vice President of Distribution at Fruit of the Loom, where his commitment to excellence and leadership left a lasting impact in his field. One of the most cherished times in his career was being the Plant Manager at Martin Mills where he was able to work alongside people who became lifelong friends.
Don always had a passion for life. Don loved reminiscing about his high school days, where he played sports at Franklin County High and spent countless hours fishing in Elkhorn Creek. Also, he cherished his years raising a family in Cecilia, LA. Towards his later chapter in life, he was passionate about being Papa and couldn’t wait to travel and spend time with his grandkids with Della.
Known for his compassionate nature, Don touched the lives of many. His generosity, coupled with his strong work ethic, earned him the admiration and respect of all who knew him. He possessed a rare gift for conversation, offering guidance and a listening ear to those in need. He embodied this philosophy as the ultimate giver, always ready to lend a helping hand and share his wisdom with others.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Watts.
A celebration of life event for Donald will be invitation only where immediate family are invited to join in celebrating his life and sharing their fondest memories. Don's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a profound impact on his family, friends, and community, forever remembered for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering love.
