It is with profound sadness the family of David M. Mercier announces his passing on May 4, 2026 at the age of 76. 

David Passed away peacefully at the Flannery Oaks Guest House in Baton Rouge, LA. David was best known for his humor and quick wit. He loved family, friends, fellowship and especially food. Born on April 12, 1950 in Baton Rouge, LA, to parents Joseph W. Mercier Sr. and Gloria (Sullivan) Mercier. David graduated from Redemptorist High school in 1968.

After high school, David served in the Vietnam war; He served for the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Tennessee and Phu Cat, Vietnam. While serving, he painted fighter jets. After the war, he maintained a lifelong career as a painter eventually building his own business.

He was a loving father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He is survived by his children, Lonnie Roberts and Michelle Mercier; grandchildren Alexis, Chloe, Ethan, Noah, Zoe, plus numerous nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters Joe Jr. Mercier, Cathy Mercier Hooge and husband Randy, Billy and Sharon Mercier as well as Ruby Mercier.

David will be laid to rest at Louisiana Southeast National Military Cemetery in Zachary. His family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at Flannery Oaks, especially Allison. We will miss him. He is now happy, joyous and free!
