Dan

Dan was born on June 1st, 1956 and entered the kingdom of Heaven on July 27th, 2026, Dan went to meet the Lord and Savior peacefully at home, with his family around him.

Dan was a loving husband and his wife Jackie loved him deeply. He was an amazing father and incredible Pop Pop. His grandchildren, Avagail, Zelda, Connor and Kieran, were the light of his life. Everyone who met Dan loved him, he was funny and cared deeply for his family and friends.Dan was born in Monroe, Louisiana in 1956. He graduated high school in 1974 and shortly after married the love of his life, Jackie Odom. He spent the next 52 years caring for, providing for and loving Jackie.

Dan and Jackie spent the first years of their marriage in Monroe/West Monroe and then moved to Kansas for a short time. They then moved to Baton Rouge/Denham Springs around 1978.Dan started his career in 1974 at Ford, Bacon and Davis in Monroe. He retired in 2021 from Ford, Bacon and Davis in Baton Rouge. 

Dan was one of the first in South Louisiana to learn AutoCAD and taught it in both Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Dan started out as a draftsman and moved up and held many positions, including leading a group of designers, programming for Exxon and managing an international database at Exxon. Dan was very involved in his church and community. 

He was Scout Master of Troop 297 and helped a number of boys earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Dan was also head of the Acts of Kindness ministry, on the mission team and over the audio-visual ministry. He installed and maintained the computers at the church we attended at the time. Dan was also involved in the youth group at two different churches.

Dan was a member of a small men's group for the last fifteen or so years, he loved those men and they loved him. He is preceded in death by his mother - Joy May Smith, born Monroe, La; father - James Worthington Smith, born Monroe, La.; brother - Mike Thomas Smith.

Survivors include his wife Jackie Lynn Odom Smith; 2 brothers, Guy Worthington Smith and wife Gwen, David L. Smith and wife Kathy; two sons, Austin R. Smith and wife Ashley, Travis R. Smith and wife Bex; four grandchildren, Avagail Amanda (Moon) Smith, Zelda Zee Smith, Connor Daniel Smith, Kieran Marie Paci; Nieces and nephews, Jessica Phillips, Jamie Livingston, Charlie Smith, Jonathan Walsworth, James Smith and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces.

A celebration of life will be held in Dan’s home on Saturday, August 1st from 2:00 PM -4:00 PM.
