Claude Arthur Houchin entered into eternal rest with our Lord on August 25, 2023, at the age of 82. He was a native of Oklahoma City but a long-time resident of Baton Rouge. In the early 1960’s, he served as an Air Force radio repairman at Tinker AFB. For many years, Claude worked as a timekeeper for Brown & Root. In 1985, he opened Houchin’s Custom Framing. Claude was an accomplished artist and was featured in the Advocate for his scenic paintings on tree leaves. One of his paintings of the wild iris was selected for the 1995 Wild Louisiana Stamp. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Geraldine Houchin, and a child, Patrick Houchin. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vera Darce Houchin; step-children Wayne (Shannon) DeLeo, Jr. and Julie Coughlin; his sister Barbara Johns of Oklahoma; his 8 grandchildren; 4 nephews; and 26 step nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., BR, on September 1, 2023, from 9am until the memorial service at 11am. A burial service will be held at Louisiana National Cemetery on September 5, 2023, at 10am.
