Icicles hung from the eaves on a little house in Colfax, Louisiana on February 27, 1934 when Clarence Hunter Willett, Jr was born. Welcoming him were his parents, Clarence Hunter Willett, Sr and Louise Jackson Willett. His grandmother, Adelia Hooper, helped raise him until the family moved to Baton Rouge when Hunter was 11. Hunter loved his hometown and kept close ties to his beloved Colfax to the very end.
After a brief illness, He departed this earthly plane on July 29, 2024 with his wife, Terri, at his side.
Hunter held a Masters Plus 30 from LSU. This man bled Purple and Gold! He loved all LSU sports and was a devoted Tiger fan his whole life.
The day Hunter graduated with his Bachelor’s in Education, he was hired as a teacher at Woodlawn School where he spent his entire educational career as a teacher, coach, Assistant Principal, and finally Principal of Woodlawn High School.
Upon retirement from education, Hunter led a rich and colorful life. He raised tomatoes for Associated Grocers on his 40 acre farm. He started body building in his 50’s and became a senior model for California Crazee Wear gym clothing. He, also, worked with his late wife, Mayme, at her antiques and craft shop, the Pine Cone, in Ascension Parish.
Hunter was a fantastic storyteller. He regaled family and friends with many tales (some were even true!) of his life adventures and sporting prowess. His high school career included being a teammate to the likes of Billy Cannon and Bob Petit. Let’s not even get into the boxing stories!
Hunter is survived by his loving wife, Terri Karam Willett. Also surviving him are children John Hunter Willett (Julie), Louise Willett Pettigrew (Gary), Steven Reed Anderson (Nancy) and Margaret Anderson Anton (Harley). Grandchildren James, Eamon, Shelby and Hunter and great grandchildren Chelsea, Sabriel and Baby Boy on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Louise, and his dear wife of nearly 30 years, Mayme Willett.
The family thanks the St. George Fire Department and EMTs for their quick response, the doctors and nurses at Baton Rouge General Hospital Bluebonnet for their excellent care and to Clarity Hospice for helping us through his last days with dignity.
