Clarence Anthony Smith, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026. and is now resting in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
He was born on September 26, 1937, in Houma, La. After being raised in Vacherie, he was then drafted into the United States Army in 1960 and served as a member of the Military Police Corps until his formal honorable discharge in 1967. He then spent the remainder of his life in Baton Rouge working in the petrochemical industry and retail.
He lived his life as a man of integrity, responsibility, and simple joys. He had a dry wit, immense sense of humor, and love for life that was envied by all who knew him. He was a man of many talents, including his love of painting, indoor and outdoor gardening, and creating beautiful floral arrangements. He loved all holidays and took great pleasure in decorating for any occasion, and for anyone who asked for his assistance.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. Smith Jr. and Mary Von Lessard Smith, his brothers Robert Smith and Ronald Smith, and sister Judy Smith Partin.
He is survived by his son Chad A. Smith and his wife Terri-Lyn Smith, granddaughters Jessica Pridemore, Morgan (Zachary) Smith, and Baylee Smith, four great-granddaughters, former wife Clovis Sylvester, special friend Mark Powell, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, there will be no wake, viewing, or graveside service. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday 4/25/26 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Liberty Baptist Church (10414 Acy Rd, St Amant, LA 70774) . As we celebrate his life, we are reminded of the countless memories shared and the impact he made on those around him.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Landmark of Baton Rouge and to Life Source Services (Hospice) for their exceptional care, love, and support for him and our family.
