Richard Snoddy, age 78, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Richard was born on March 7, 1947, in Iraan, Texas. A graduate of Texas Tech University, while there he met the love of his life, Tanya Doreen (Bird) Snoddy. They were married shortly after graduating in 1972 and shared 53 years together. After briefly living in the New Orleans area, they settled in Baton Rouge, where they built a life full of love, laughter, faith, and community.

He is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Tanya, who recently passed away. Also preceded by his father, Marvin Rankin and mother, Wilda Ruth Snoddy. He is survived by his children and grandchildren.

Together, Richard and Tanya raised their four children: Joy, Porter, Jeanne, and Landon. Richard was known as “Papa” to his ten grandchildren, a role he cherished deeply and wholeheartedly. Being Papa was one of his greatest joys, and his love for his grandchildren was unmistakable.

Richard had a gift for humor as dad jokes, puns, and quick wit were always part of his charm. He was known for his bright smile (complete with a small chip in his front tooth) and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. Friends of his children always felt at home in the Snoddy household; Richard had a natural fathering spirit and a heart open to all.

A passionate musician, Richard’s love for music began during his college years, when he played bass in a band called The Bruts. That passion carried into his faith life, as he spent many years leading worship at his church.

Richard loved Jesus deeply and was known for sharing that love openly with others. His faith was not just spoken but lived—through kindness, generosity, and genuine care for people. His faith shaped every aspect of his life and left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Richard had a heart for people and was always ready to share encouraging words and wisdom for others.

He was also one of the founding members of The Chapel School, which is now known as The Dunham School in Baton Rouge, leaving a lasting legacy in the community.

Family vacations were always an adventure, especially when Richard packed the SUV until it resembled something straight out of The Beverly Hillbillies. Life with Richard was never dull—he was fun, entertaining, and full of wisdom. Richard retired from C-K Associates in Baton Rouge after more than 25 years of dedicated service. Post retirement, Richard volunteered as the chaplain for Hope Charities during the beginning years of the organization.

Above all else, Richard loved his family deeply. He loved people and left a mark on everyone who had the joy of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at Vineyard Church of Baton Rouge 16761 Tiger Bend Road.
