Cecil Uvell Wood Sr.

Cecil Uvell Wood Sr., 68, of Slaughter, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2023, surrounded by family and friends after a quick battle with cancer. Cecil was born on March 26, 1955, to parents George and Rada Wood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and raised by his mother and stepfather Donald Beard. After high school Cecil became a carpenter by trade. He worked for JW Grand for many years and had his own construction company. Cecil was a hard worker, loved to do carpentry, and helping others. He was always there to help anyone and everyone. Cecil never met a stranger – if he was your friend, you had a friend for life. He enjoyed spending time with his wife; friends; and neighbors, laughing, listening to music, and cooking good food. Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Coates; children, Cecil Uvell Wood, Jr. “Woody”, and Jason Allen Wood; sister, Sarina Haymen; as well as multiple stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother Rada Beard; father, George Wood; stepfather, Donald Beard; brothers, Wayne and Kenny Brewster. Though we know in our hearts he is with his savior Jesus Christ, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
