Carrie Lea "Sugar" Webb Smiley, aged 101, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, in Lake Charles, LA. She was born on September 12, 1922, in Denham Springs, LA, Sugar was a cherished member of her community and beloved by many.
She attended and graduated from Denham Springs High. She married Daniel Smiley in 1940. Not long after, she went to work for Livingston Roofing and worked until retirement at age 82. She and Daniel loved to travel.
Sugar was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daniel "Boone" Smiley; her mother, Ruth Perkins Webb; her father, Julius Lathrop Webb; and her brothers, Milton Webb, Louie Webb, Tom Ed Webb, Fridge Webb, George Webb and Cecil Webb She was also preceded by her sisters, Emma Webb, Elsie Webb Tanner and Claudia Webb Curtis.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her family, including her son, James "Milton" Smiley; nephew Warren Buster Curtis; granddaughters, Glenda OBryant and Ericka Babineaux; grandson, John Smiley; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Joli, Julia, and Joncollin; and great-great-grandchildren, Aleah, Aaron, Evelyn, Malachi, and Axton; along with honorary great-great grandchildren, Jacie, Hunter, Payten, Taysom, and Rylan.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to Resthaven Nursing Center and Amedisys Hospice for all the love and care that was provided. Also, we would like to thank Susan Howell at LaPlantation for being a loving friend and caretaker of Carrie.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 9 AM. The service is being arranged by Church Funeral Services and Crematory, located in Walker, LA. Sugar's kindness and warm spirit touched all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed
