Carl Giles

Carl Giles passed away peacefully at his home on June 10, 2026 at the age of 86. He was born in Hammond, LA. As a young man, he spent 3 years in Alaska while in the army. Then he traveled to many parts of the world working for an oil exploration company. After settling in Hammond, he was an electronics technician for the Dept. of Agriculture and Forestry. When not at work, he liked to garden and fish. He also liked driving his tractor, cutting grass, and any other outdoor work. His favorite pets were his cockatiel Perky, dog Teddy and cat Tommy. 

Carl loved his two boys and loved to take family trips in the summer. He also enjoyed fixing up cars for his sons to drive when they were teenagers. Carl also loved his grandsons and grand-daughters very much and his face lit up whenever they came to visit. He loved the Lord and attended church and served as a deacon until his health began to decline. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carolyn Giles; son Steven Giles (Monikie), grandchildren Grant, Grason, Keesha, MacKenzie, Steven Jr., stepgrandson Kyron; sisters Dianne Jenkins and Lois Lyle; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Carl is preceded in death by his son Darren, parents Branchard and Evelyn Giles, brothers Louie and Donald, and sister Katherine Marrero. 

We want to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge for the special care they gave to Carl during his last months. Also, daughter in law Monikie was a kind and loving help whenever needed. 

Services for Carl will be held at the Albany First Baptist Church 18950 Florida Blvd. Albany, LA 70711 on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026; visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with a religious service at 12:00 PM. A procession to a graveside service at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery will conclude the arrangements.
