“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others.” Billy Gene Myers, of Gonzales, Louisiana, was a caring husband, father, paw paw, and friend to many. He passed away on December 21st, 2023 at the age of 93.

 

Billy was born on November 29th, 1930 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Clarence R. Myers and Effie Blackford Myers. He remained in Oklahoma until he enlisted in the Navy and served his country. Billy served four years in the United States Navy before being honorably discharged on September 7th, 1952.

 

He married Juanita W. Myers on March 6th, 1953 in Brownsville, Texas. They lived briefly in Brownsville, Texas until they moved to Gonzales.  Billy was the father of Mark, Paul, Anna, and John. He was a loving father who worked hard to provide for his family. After moving to Gonzales, he worked as a millwright at Ormet until he retired. Billy was also a member of First Baptist Church of Gonzales.

 

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Juanita. He will be deeply missed by his surviving children and their spouses, Mark and Sharon Myers, Paul Myers, Anna and Mike Sagona, and his daughter-in-law Kimberly Myers. He also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Chad Sagona, Kristi (Derrick) Carriere, Stephanie (Patrick) Icenogle, Brad (Alicia) Sagona, and Clint (Briana) Myers. In addition, Billy had 12 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kaylyn, Paisley, Lake, Jaxton, Rhyse, Dexton, Cayden, Demi, Oliver, Dani, and Vinny.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Effie Myers, his youngest son, John Alan Myers, and his siblings.

 

Pallbearers will be Mike Sagona, Chad Sagona, Brad Sagona, Clint Myers, Brayden Carter, and Patrick Icenogle.

 

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church Gonzales, 1217 S Burnside Ave, Gonzales, LA 70737, on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 9 AM until a service at 11 AM celebrated by Brother Jim Law. Burial will follow at Lusk Cemetery, Weber City Rd, Gonzales, LA 70737 with US Naval Military Honors.
