Betty Sue (Fox) Chenevert

December 23, 1939 — September 3, 2023

Betty Sue (Fox) Chenevert passed away Sunday Sept 3rd surrounded by family at her home in Greenwell Springs Louisiana. She was born in Algiers Louisiana on December 23 1939 but has lived in the Baton Rouge area for the last 43 years give or take. She is survived by her loving husband Philip Chenevert of 56 years. She is also survived by son Matthew, daughter-in-law Kasey, daughter Sarah Malarcher, son-in-law Donnie, her cousin Donald Gautreaux and daughter-in-law Koa Erwin Chenevert. Numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Nephews and nieces listed chronologically. Beth Bourgeois (David), Bobby Goens (Ellen), David Goens (Tamie), Cathie Gerrets (Damon), Susan Fortier (John), and Stephen Goens (Nancy). She was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Eunice Fox, her sister Pat Goens and son Andre Louis Chenevert.  She taught school for over 3 decades from elementary to junior high to special education largely in the Catholic school systems after beginning in the public programs. Betty had a calling to teach and wouldn’t have wanted to do anything else. She felt it was very rewarding. Many students have kept in contact over the years.  The majority of this time was at St Gerard Majella in Baton Rouge. She touched so many lives by opening her home to anyone who was in need. She loved trips to Walmart not to shop but to talk and visit with everyone. She never met a stranger and always had a kind word to say. The only thing in the room that was brighter than her was all the sparkles she would wear!  Over her 83 years she put herself through college, got married, raised 3 children who then provided her with her retirement plan of raising her 8 grandchildren. Jacob, Joshua, Jordan Chenevert. Molly, Mason, Mia Malarcher. Meredith (Witko) and Samuel Chenevert.  The only thing that rivaled her love of teaching were her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters …. and maybe a cup of Community New Orleans blend which she would gladly talk to anyone who wanted to chat. She was a devout Catholic as she was a member of the prayer line and Eucharistic Adoration at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Greenwell Springs, LA.  Betty loved to dance, and it seems fitting that is where she met her husband.  Any time people had get-togethers she was in her element. Family gatherings were her favorite as that was often the center of her life. Her absence is already missed as her rocking chair now sits empty but will be filled with all the love and compassion that she poured into her family.  Services on 9/15/23.  Visitation at church 9:45 am to 11 am.  Mass will be at 11 am in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church Greenwell Springs, LA.  Reception after Mass in the St. Francis Room at the church. In lieu of flowers, please visit the Unbound Organization site at www.Unbound.org  This was very dear to Betty and we supported children and old people around the world for many years on a monthly basis.  She would love to think that others might do so as well. Additionally, here are some pictures of Betty Sue’s wonderful life. Take a moment to glance at a few of her from five years on up. https://photos.app.goo.gl/iLqa43xP4sRsjf5n7
