Bernie Gerard Young

Bernie Gerard Young, 75, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Bernie was a practical, hardworking man who was loved by everyone who met him. It was hard to go anywhere without someone recognizing him and sharing a story or memory. After graduating high school, he attended vocational school, where he learned the trade that became his lifelong career. Bernie worked in hair styling for more than 50 years and owned and operated Young’s Hair Styling, where nearly everyone who sat in his chair became a “regular.”

Outside of work, Bernie enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with those he loved. He was an avid fisherman and was well known for hosting his famous fish fries. Each February, he looked forward to rabbit hunting with his father, his son, close friends, and his loyal pack of dogs.

Bernie is survived by his father, Eddins Young; his children Wesley and Aaron; his daughter in law Jill, brothers, Wayne and Dennis and sister-in-law Patricia; his sister, Sandra Young; God Children Trish Singletary and Richard Young as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Olivia Young.

Bernie will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 am to 11:30 am with Mass to follow. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the church hall after services are conducted.
