Arthur John Schexnayder, Jr., 85, of Welcome, LA, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025. Born on January 14, 1940, in Welcome, he lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and love for his family, farming, and his community.
Arthur attended Louisiana State University before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army where he played football and served as a military police officer. Arthur worked in Operations at Ormet for 13 years. Following in his family’s footsteps, he took over the family sugarcane business and built a successful career as a sugarcane farmer. His leadership extended beyond the farm – he served as President of West St. James Farm Bureau and contributed his time and expertise on various state boards and commissions.
Arthur was married to his loving wife, Elsie, for sixty years and together they raised five children: Nancy (Kert) Granier, Beverly (Jerome) Zeringue, Arthur Schexnayder III, Mary Keller, and Kandis (Chaney) Gonzales. He was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Arthur was also survived by siblings, Mary Ann Labat and Eugene “Genie” Schexnayder. He was proceeded in death by parents, Arthur and Alice Schexnayder; infant daughter, Kim Marie Schexnayder; brother, Lawrence Schexnayder; and godchildren, Linda Johnson and Jacinta Labat.
Arthur will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of hard work, integrity, and his devotion to his faith and family will live on through the generations he cherished.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Donaldsonville from 9:00 am until mass at 11:00 am celebrated by Rev. Matthew Dupre. Entombment will follow in Ascension Catholic Mausoleum. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.
