Adam Joseph Pitre

Born to Mary Lizzie Richard and Alexison Remi Pitre on February 4, 1948, in Oberlin, LA.

  Joe had a way of making everyone he encountered feel special. He simply loved people. He could turn a frown upside down in the quickest way possible.

  Cajun from birth, he cherished his heritage until the end. He was an avid hunter and loved to cook. He could make a mean chicken fricassee.

  At the age of two years old, Joe was placed into the foster care system. He was raised in the Rayne, Church Point and Lake Charles areas.  At age 14, he shined shoes at a Barber shop in Rayne, for twenty cents a pair. By the age of 17, he was accepted into Boy’s Village in Lake Charles, LA. He graduated from Iowa High School in 1966.

On July 24, 2026, at the age of 78, Joe entered eternity leaving behind his wife of 45 years, Mary (Kady Burke). His children Tammy (Rebecca), Megan, Adam II (Te-Joe), Shane (Mera). His grandchildren Alex, Christian (Allyson), Burke, Amelie, Krishna, and one great grandson, Elliot.

He is survived by his sisters, Dottie, Theresa and Peggy. Countless brother and sister in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tommy and Bruce. He has been greeted by numerous family members including cousins and close friends.

Joe went to work at Cotton Brother’s Holsum Bakery as a routeman at the age of 18 years old. In 1969, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served until 1971. During his 28 years of service with Holsum, he quickly became Sales Manager of all Southwest Louisiana. During that time, Joe held a position on the local and state Board for the Louisiana Restaurant Association.

The Pitre family moved to French Settlement in 1997, joined St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where Joe became an active member of the Knights of Columbus for 21 years, and also the Treasurer for 10 years. Joe was a fourth-degree Knight for 14 years. 

He was employed by Kleinpeter Dairy in 1994 for 7 years. He opened the Houma, Thibodeaux area as sales manager.

In 2002, he and Kady opened Jody’s Snow and Ice. He is the J-O of Jody’s and Kady is the D-Y. Hence, Jody’s Snow and Ice. In 2009, Jody’s move to the Icicle which was originally opened in 1984. He was very proud of the fact that he was able to be a part of keeping the soul of Head of Island alive. His favorite job title was being the Greeter from his vintage chair. He loved harassing customers of all ages. He did not discriminate. All of you became family. Tara (Jake), who is the S in Jody's, represents the Sanity of the company. She became the heartbeat of the business and kept it afloat through all the trying times, along with Tinley and Faith for the past 11 years. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 9 a.m. with Mass officiated by Fr. Matthew Dunn and Deacon Jimmy Little at 11:00 a.m.

The family has requested for everyone to wear comfortable, colorful clothes in celebration of Joe’s life. Joe is all about living life.

Most of all, the family ask for continued prayers as we walk the path the good Lord has in place for us.
