Michael Jay Recotta Jr.

Michael Jay “Big Red” Recotta passed away on March 9, 2023, at the age of 31. Michael Jay was born to Michael Jay and Brenda Recotta on February 18, 1992 in Metairie, LA. On Friday, March 17, 9:30 visitation will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, LA at 9:30 – Noon with Mass at Noon. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in French Settlement. As a child, Michael Jay attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Elementary school in Kenner as well as St. Louis King of France in Metairie. He swam for Woodlake Country Club and won many medals in both backstroke and breaststroke. After Hurricane Katrina, Michael Jay and his family relocated to Hammond where he attended Holy Ghost Elementary and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Michael Jay lettered all four years in football and proudly wore his #70. Michael Jay went on to attend the University of Houston on a scholarship and Southeastern Louisiana University. Michael, father, brother, son and friend will always be remembered for his kindness, humor and loving larger than life-personality. Everyone he met was a friend for life. Michael Jay is survived by his parents, Michael Jay and Brenda Sticker Recotta; his sister, Chelsea Anne; his brother, Andrew James; daughter, Charlie Ray; son, Colden Jay; his niece, Mikayla Jade; his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Ladner Sticker; aunts and uncles, Mary (George) LeBourgeois, James Kenneth (Patty) Sticker, Jr., Ann (Paul) Sticker Arcemont, Linda Sticker, Thomas Edward Sticker, Gary (Kim) Louis Sticker, Sandra (William) Sticker Brown, and faternal grandmother Mary Sciara Recotta; Russell (Susan) Joseph Recotta, and David Wayne Recotta; as well as 30 first and second cousins and numerous more loving cousins. Michael Jay was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James K. Sticker. Active pallbearers will be Andrew Recotta, Toye Toppino, Joshua Schilling, Matthew Carona, Aaron LeBourgeois, Paul Canino, and Brandon Loria. Consider donating to the trust fund set up for Michael Jay’s children, which they will receive on their 18th birthday.
