Betty Joy Gautreau Bercegeay

Betty Joy Gautreau Bercegeay, 95, passed away on November 6,2022 in Gonzales. She was born on July 28, 1927, in Denham Springs, Louisiana and was a lifelong resident of Prairieville, Louisiana. Her past times were crocheting, sewing, cooking, and watching sports. She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and always loved being active in church functions. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, and friends and looked forward to her monthly luncheon with her 1944 Gonzales classmates. She worked as a substitute teacher for Ascension Parish School Board for many years. Her memory was exceptional about life.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Andre Bercegeay; Father and Mother, Eddie Sr., and Emma Courtney Gautreau; brothers, Eddie Gautreau Jr., N.C. Gautreau, and Garney Gautreau; father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Alphonse (Yuke), and Elodie Hebert Bercegeay.

Betty is survived by her three children, Larry Bercegeay and wife, Kathie, Gregory Bercegeay and wife, Sandra (Susie) and Charlene Bercegeay Parker; seven grandsons, Ranji and husband, Stephen, Ryan and wife, Kayla, Brant and wife, Madison Rose, Blane and wife, Leslie, Bradley Bercegeay and soulmate, Brittany Barbera, Corey Parker, Rhett Parker and soulmate, Marah Hanks; two granddaughters, RaSheall Parker and Courtney Bercegeay; sisters-in-law, Celina, Geraldine, and Eleanor Gautreau; great-grandchildren, Madison Bercegeay and soulmate, Blade Breaux, Paisley, Ganin and, Jordyn Bercegeay, Taylor Ramirez and husband, Hugo, Trey Parker, Hailey Parker and Ethan Melancon; numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.

Pallbearers will be Ryan, Brant, Blane, Bradley Bercegeay, Corey, and Rhett Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cecil Broussard, Curtis Fontenot, and Ranji Bercegeay.

Visitation will be at St. John Evangelist Church in Prairieville, Friday, November 11, 2022, from 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M., celebrated by Fr. Jerry Martin. Burial to follow in the Prairieville Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Betty’s honor to the Prairieville Cemetery Association.
