Sheila Steim Talamo

Sheila Steim Talamo passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was 73 years old.

Born in Shreveport, LA, Sheila was raised in Metairie where she attended St. Louis King of France elementary school and was a 1966 graduate of Mount Carmel Academy. She received her undergraduate degree in Math Education from LSU in 1970 and later earned a Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from Nicholls State University.

She spent her entire career in education as a teacher, administrator, principal in high schools throughout Louisiana; and, as a department head and assistant superintendent with the Louisiana Department of Education. After retiring from the Department, she worked until her passing as the Coordinator of School Services and Director of Louisiana BOLD for the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching.

She was a highly motivated and passionate leader throughout her career but never let that professional drive get in the way of being a devoted wife and amazing mother. Her energy, focus and enthusiasm for her family was felt by all who came into her orbit.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lorraine Steim. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, A.J. Talamo, Jr, her son, Shannon Talamo, and his wife, Katie Peaslee Talamo. She was selfless and devoted to her family. Other survivors include her sisters, Sandra Schaetz (Gene), Sharon Block (Tommy) and Suzette Long (Jimmy) as well as her many nieces and nephews who she loved deeply.

Services will be held on her birthday, September 16, 2022 at St. George Church, 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will continue until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
