Lionel Joseph “Buck” Keller, a native and resident of Lake, Louisiana was born on May 16, 1926, to the late Lawrence and Anna Ficklin Keller, passed away at home on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the age of 96. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.  He was a graduate of St. Amant High School, received his Bachelor of Science from Southeastern Louisiana College, and his master’s degree from Tulane University.  Lionel was a World War II Navy Veteran, an avid outdoorsman, and lifetime member of the Gonzales Boat Club. He retired in 1980 from the Louisiana State Department of Health and Hospitals. His passion throughout his life was his garden, especially growing strawberries, which he loved sharing with everyone. Lionel is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Carolyn Gashia Keller; son, Collin (Michelle) Keller; and sister Eva Dean Keller Poirrier. Lionel was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings; Louella Keller Distefano, Maurice “Pedo” Keller, Betty Keller Parker, and Clarence “White” Keller. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Sacred Heart Lake Chapel in St. Amant from 9:00am-11:00am with Mass following visitation, conducted by Father Matthew Lorrain. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Galvez-Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Church Funeral Services and Cremation for their care and support during this time. “Buck” will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Amant, Louisiana.
