Ruth Anne Angle Dokey

Ruth Anne Angle Dokey, age 79, formerly of Algiers, passed away on June 28, 2022. She was a graduate of Martin Behrman High School in 1960 and was Treasurer of her graduating class. She received her B.A. in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1965, and was a founding member of the Phi Mu sorority chapter while there.

She found her passion in teaching and dedicated 39 years to educating, inspiring, and enriching the lives of her students. She taught in several schools:  McDonough 35, Dwight D. Eisenhower, St. Andrew the Apostle, Aurora Gardens Academy, and Alice M. Harte Elementary; she also taught Vacation Bible School for Holy Spirit Catholic Church on occasion. Ruth’s talents were in nurturing and caring for those in need – whether a friend, homeless animal, or even a delicate plant. She enjoyed annual beach trips with her family, was a voracious reader and an avid Elvis Presley fan. In her later years, she lived in Terrytown and was an active member of the Terrytown Garden Club. Most recently Ruth lived at Sunrise Assisted Living in Baton Rouge.

Preceded in death by her grandmother, Josephine (“Josie”) Pendas Richards, her parents, Mathilda (“Tilly”) Josephine Richards Angle and Oma Judson Angle, and her loving husband of 33 years, Charles (“Charlie”) E. Dokey, Jr. Charlie was the brother of Theresa D. Morales. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Denise D. Bourgeois; daughter, Deanna K. Dokey; sister, Kathleen A. Kerrigan; brother, William J. Angle; godson, Kevin Schurb; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Throughout her life, her pets were also members of her family and loved as such, including her two Samoyeds, Icey Mist and Sammy, and many cats, including Snowflake and Purrell, and her “grandcats,” Lolo Jones, Hidey, and Peek-A-Boo.
