Mittie Louella Bishop Sheets

Mittie Louella Bishop Sheets, 83, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on June 6, 2022. She was a native and life-long resident of St. Amant. She enjoyed school, was very active in 4-H; and was the Drum Majorette of the St. Amant High School Band. After graduating from St. Amant High School in 1957, she attended beauty school and opened Mittie’s Beauty Shop. Mittie was an entrepreneur who believed in education and loved children. She worked several years at St. Amant Elementary School as an Aide before opening St. Amant Day Care Center where she taught pre-school, as well as, managing the operation. Mittie loved visiting and traveling with family and friends. Throughout the years she and her husband, Jimmie, visited all 48 contiguous US states and Canada and Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Crawford Shively and Lilly Ann Harper Bishop, and Alexander and Alida Berteau Landry. Her parents, Crawford Jerome and Elmyra Landry Bishop. Father and mother-in-law Allie John and Lillie Mae Pertuis Sheets, brother Crawford Alexander Bishop, sister-in-law Arlene Epstein Bishop, brother-in-law John P. “Jack” Casey; and nephew Myer Epstein Bishop.

Mittie is survived by her husband of 65 years, James R. “Jimmie” Sheets; sons, Stephen P. Sheets (Michelle Mayeux), Michael “Brad” Sheets (Tracy Watson), and Kyle D. Sheets (Leslie Bryant). Grandchildren: Ashley Sheets Johnston (Joshua), Zachary B. Sheets (Courtney Hancock), Matthew Bishop-Wright, Stephen “Blake” Sheets, Kilee Sheets. Great-grandchildren, Laila Johnston and Joshua “Cash” Johnston. Sister, Alida

Bishop Casey, brother-in-law Robert “Bobby” Sheets (Hilda Reine), Nieces: Cathy Casey Hickey (Patrick), Caren Casey Kavanaugh (Mark), Candace Casey Carter (Marcus), Alana Bishop Monaghan (James), Glenda Sheets Landeche (Dean); nephews Morrie A. Bishop, John “Pat” Casey (Billy “Kat” Cooper), Robert Sheets Jr (DeAnne Matherne), and many great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice, nurses, Melissa Mistretta and Jaime Guedry. Our tireless caregivers who have worked around the clock: Roberta Robichaux, Anne Boudreaux

and TashaCourtney; Social Worker: Consuela Martinez; and Chaplain Chester Readus.
