Michael Franklin Kilroy

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God” Romans 8:38-39. Michael Franklin Kilroy passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the age of 77.  He was a native of Lake Charles and a longtime resident of Ascension Parish, born to John and Angela Kilroy in April 1944. He grew up in north Baton Rouge and graduated from Istrouma High School before attending LSU.  He proudly served in the United States Navy as a submariner for 14 years.  After an honorable discharge, he worked as an engineer for 25 years with McDermott, Inc. Michael enjoyed and mastered many hobbies throughout his life – woodworking, astronomy, gardening, operating a HAM radio, and making the best puff pastry around. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America as a leader where he touched the lives of many young men. He had a generous spirit and an infectious laugh that could fill a room.  Mike loved scuba diving, the solitude of hiking in the woods, and the calmness of paddling a canoe. Preceding Michael in death were his parents John Collins Kilroy, Sr. and Angela Franklin Kilroy, nephew John Collins Kilroy, III and sister-in-law Marguerite Sholar Kilroy.Survivors include his wife, Kandis Vernon Kilroy, and her children Stephanie Cook (Bob) and Donald M. McDaniel (Melissa); his 5 children, Courtney Lea Traylor, Allison Dixie Samrow, Summer Sunshine Owen (Kevin), Jonathan Franklin Kilroy (Jessica), and Catherine Ellen Chavez (Roland); his brothers John Collins Jr., James Thomas Sr., Patrick Kyle (Wanda), and his sister Susan Kilroy Chapman (Jerry); 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He was a member of Ascension Baptist Church (13432 Airline Hwy, Gonzales,LA 70737) where a service of celebration honoring his life will be held on April 1,2022, with visitation at 10:00am and service at 11:00am.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (Wounded Warrior Project – Donate).  The family hereby expresses its gratitude to the employees of the Guest House and Audubon Hospice Services for their care and support during Mike’s illness and death.
