James Edward Chavers

James Edward Chavers, known to most as Jimmy, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on December 13, 2021. He was born on August 5, 1940 to Sam and Pearlie Chavers in Montpelier, La.

He served 4 years as a sailor with the United States Navy. For most of his life, he drove eighteen-wheelers for Enterprise Transportation. Later in life he drove a school bus for Livingston Head Start and also worked as the Walker High School crossing guard for the Walker Police Department.

He loved watching wrestling and Judge Judy on his tv with his baby dog CoCo. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and absolutely loved a good road trip. He was a devoted fan of LSU baseball and football and the New Orleans Saints. Everything he did in life was for his kids and grandkids.



He is preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Ann Gale Bridges Chavers; his mother and father, Sam and Pearlie Chavers; his son Jimmy, Jr.; brothers and sister Elmer Chavers, Vinion Chavers, Jeff Chavers, and Argie Lee Duncan; sons-in-law Elgin John Melancon III and Michael Edward Deas.



He is survived by his daughters Mimi Melancon of Denham Springs and Ruthie “Ruffie” Deas of Walker;

Grandchildren Keri Leann Foster, Elgin John Melancon IV, Jennifer Odom, Rachel Deas, Jami Melancon, Zach Deas, and Chuckie Melancon; great-grandchildren Jacelyn Melancon, Kenner Odom, Jaylee Odom,  Everlee Ward, and Jayden and Bella Newman.



His last ten years were blissfully spent with his better half, Sue Menier of Denham Springs.



Memorial services will be on December 18, 2021 at Plainview Baptist Church conducted by his pastor Tommy Shipp. Burial will be in a private ceremony with the immediate family on Sunday.
