Audron William “Poochie” Bourgeois, Sr., a native of Gonzales and lifelong resident of St. Amant (Gonzales), was born March 23, 1949, and passed away on October 22, 2021, at the age of 72. He was a 1967 graduate of East Ascension High School where he was an accomplished member of the school band. Poochie traveled extensively throughout the southeast United States playing his iconic raised-bell trumpet and singing for over 50 years with bands such as The Blue Notes, The New Blues, Last Chance, Mike Broussard & Night Train, and Na Na Sha. He served in the Louisiana National Guard and worked at Allied Signal/Honeywell for 30 years before retiring. He was keenly interested in his community’s Cajun French roots and often called upon to explain how the different family trees connected. He was a devoted husband, father and lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of St. Amant.  He was also a great friend to a multitude of musicians, extended family, and lifelong acquaintances in our community. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane “BG” Diez; sisters Darline (Brignac), Ruth (Bourque) and Shirley (Mire); daughter Sonya, son Nicholas and granddaughters Jaelyn, Sage and Lilly.  He was preceded in death by mother Lucy and father Marshall in addition to son Audron Bourgeois, Jr., son Marshall Sr. and grandson Marshall Bourgeois, Jr. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, located at 44450 Highway 429 in St. Amant, LA. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and funeral mass at 11:30 am with interment at Holy Rosary Mausoleum immediately following. Masks are optional according to the most recent COVID guidelines.
