Byron “Bop” Curtis Smith

Byron Curtis Smith was born in Houma, Louisiana on January 21,1984 to Ted Ewin and Dennia ‘Deanie’ Mae Chauvin Smith. The family moved to Baton Rouge when Byron was 4 years old, and Baton Rouge was Byron’s home. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the age of 37. Byron proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and loved his Country. He served a tour in Iraq and was honorably discharged in October 2010. He was a 2002 graduate of Tara High School and a 2015 graduate of LSU, with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration. He loved his alma mater, the LSU TIGERS, and was a WHO DAT New Orleans Saints fan. He was also an avid Marvel Comics fan and took much pride in his figure collection, which he spent many hours meticulously organizing. He loved his family and friends, and what gave him the most joy in life were his nephew, Decker and Goddaughter, Hannah. He was their FUNCLE and loved every moment with them. Byron is survived by his parents, Ted and Deanie Smith; his loving sister, Shelly Renee and husband, Joseph Donovan Guillory; nephew, Joseph Decker Guillory and Goddaughter, Hannah Rosemary Guillory, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. We can’t forget Byron’s beloved cat, Ellie Mae ‘Mae-Mae’. Byron is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Malvin Joseph and Lena LeBoeuf Chauvin; paternal grandparents, T. Frank and Virginia Underwood Smith; his namesake and uncle, Curtis Chauvin and wife, Charlotte; and uncle, Leonard Belanger. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA beginning at 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life at 11:00 am, officiated by Fr. Miles Walsh. Inurnment to follow in The Garden of Peace and Memorial Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Byron’s memory to the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School Annual Campaign (https://www.olomschool.org/content.cfm?id=382).
