Teresa Valencia Greenway

Teresa Valencia Greenway, a retired lawyer from the State of Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and resident of Baton Rouge, died on Wednesday, May 19th. Terry was born in El Paso, Texas in 1940 and moved to Los Angeles, California as a pre-teen. She graduated from Belmont High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Nursing from California State University, Los Angeles. Terry worked as a nurse in Southern California for over 20 years before deciding to change careers. She enrolled in law school at Northrop University and eventually graduated with a J.D. degree. She went on to work for the State of California as well as at a couple of law firms, eventually combined her legal and nursing skills by working as a Worker’s Compensation Administrator at Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, California.

In 1995, Terry and Frank moved to Baton Rouge when Frank was hired as a Medical Director/Professor at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Terry worked 15 years for the State of Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, retiring in 2010.

Though education and career were always important to her, family was Terry’s unquestioned top priority. She frequently visited her sons, daughter, and grandchildren all over the country. In addition to traveling, Teresa loved to go out to dinner, read about archaeology and history, watch Spanish soap operas (telenovellas), attend New Orleans Saints football games, and care for her cats. Terry was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was always quick with a laugh, loved to tell funny stories, was easy to talk to and, above all, was one of the sweetest, generous, and most caring people you will ever meet.

Terry will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Frank Greenway of Baton Rouge; her three children, Greg Filler (Pamela) of Libertyville, Illinois, Lenore Morrissey (Robert) of Los Angeles, California, and Scott Greenway (Christine) of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Gillian and Georgia Filler, Erik and Robert Greenway, and Tessa Morrissey; her sister Annie Williams, and her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Juanita Valencia, and sisters Sheila Crapse and Maria Guadalupe Valencia-Colton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation (pbrf.org) or to a charity of choice.
