Dorothy Cannon Pitts

May 1, 1940 – February 23, 2021

Dorothy Cannon Pitts, 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 23, 2021 after a difficult journey with Lewey Body Dementia. As a Cancer survivor, she was naturally a fighter that never gave up. Her life was filled with love for her family, church, friends, and most of all, the Lord. She had a passion for serving others and a love for animals too. She had a heart for neglected animals and always nurtured them back to health. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed expressing her love and care for others in the kitchen, where she would always enjoy making their favorite meal. Her life embodied the Fruits of the Spirit, and there was never a question where she stood in her faith. She was her family’s prayer warrior. She had a gift for spreading the Gospel to anyone that would listen. Anyone that had the privilege of knowing Dorothy, caring is the perfect word to describe her. Whether it was for family, friends, or animals, she was never concerned about herself until everyone else’s needs were met. She worked many years as a caregiver herself and the people she cared for became like family to her. She loved spending time with her family and always made time for those she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Raymond M. Cannon. She is survived by their daughter, Deidre Carter and husband Terry along with their children (Madeline, Hayden, and Landon) and son, Michael Istre and wife Brenda along with their children (Mike and Nathanael), and James C Pitts, Jr her husband of 15 years.  She is also survived by her brother Richard Ardoin and wife Margaret, sister Cora Thomas and preceded in death by brother Howard Ardoin. The celebration of her life will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church of Central located at 14512 Greenwell Springs Rd on Monday, March 1, 2021 with visitation being from 9:00-11:00 followed by service at 11:00.
