Edward “Michael” Boyle

Edward “Michael” Boyle, 72, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22nd, 2021 at his home.  A graveside memorial will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, located at 11817 Jefferson Hwy in Baton Rouge, at 10am on Saturday, February 27th.  A celebration of life gathering from 11-1 will follow at Christ Community Church, located at 26574 Juban Road in Denham Springs.

Mike was born on October 29th, 1948 in Baton Rouge, LA to Edward (Ed) and Katherine (Kitty) Louque Boyle.  He followed the same path as most young men of the 60’s and 70’s: high school, college, military service, marriage…but maybe not in the same order.  Mike graduated from Istrouma High School in 1966, served in the military and Vietnam war for several years, got married in 1971, and then graduated from Louisiana State University in 1975. He and Sharlene Mauk Boyle would have been married 50 years in June of this year.

Mike was a fiercely spiritual man whose faith never wavered. His life was an example to so many, and he stubbornly followed the calling God first placed on him when he was five-years old.  Over the years he accepted the role of song leader, youth minister, and associate pastor, as he strongly professed his devotion and loyalty to God and His people.

A dreamer at heart, Mike was quite zealous with everything he did. He was passionate about aviation, so he got his pilot’s license. He loved cutting hair, so a barber’s chair was added to the furniture in his first home. Mike was a beloved science teacher for many years, one who provided creative experiments and daring ecosystems. His enthusiasm for photography of animals, especially insects and birds, eventually gave way to his passion for painting during his later years.  Mike believed that God blessed him with an artistic gift that allowed him a release and escape from the Parkinson’s symptoms he experienced over the past 32 years.  He painted hundreds of paintings during the last 10 years, many of which he gave away to friends and family.

Mike also enjoyed singing, writing stories and poetry, and telling corny jokes and stories.  His infectious smile and compassionate spirit blessed strangers and friends alike.  People that met “Mr. Mike” connected with him instantly and admired his zest for life.  He was a real person with a heart for others.

Mike was a loving father to his children: Rebekah Osborn (Stuart), Jonathan Boyle (Stephanie) and Matthew Boyle (Courtney); devoted husband to Sharlene Mauk Boyle; and “Pops” to his grandchildren: Owen, Jude, Henry and Mazzy.   Mike is also survived by his sister, Sheryl Gremillion (Bobby), with whom he had a very special and close relationship.   Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Kitty Boyle.

All flowers, gifts and food sent to the family have been greatly appreciated.  In lieu of additional gifts, the family suggests donations to be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, in honor of Michael Boyle, as Parkinson’s research was very near and dear to his heart. Church Funeral Services in Walker 225-644-9683 is in charge of arrangements.
