Johnny Ray Braud

Johnny Ray Braud, 69 years old, a native of St. Amant, La., was born November 17, 1951 and passed on January 15, 2021 at OLOL Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA from complications related to disability incurred during his military service. He was loving and loyal to his daughters Keri (Lonnie)b Shelton and Kelli (Shane) Waguespack, grandsons Lonnie Preston Shelton III, Conly Shelton, Bennett Waguespack and Barrett Waguespack, wife Karla DeArmond Braud, mother-in-law Nona Ricca DeArmond, brother-in-law Conly Joe DeArmond (Geri) and many cousins and friends.  He was kind, smart, and extremely generous.  His optimistic and courageous attitude was admirable.  His passion was riding his Harley and going to Sturgis.  He was an avid gun and watch collector. Preceded in death by his parents John “Cutty” Braud and Bertha Mae Coley, siblings Lisa Kay and Gary Blaine, and his beloved grandparents Dolphy and Zoe Braud, who spent most of his childhood with, and his father-in-law Conly “Mac” DeArmond.  He attended St. Amant High School and graduated from East Ascension High School in 1969.  After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, when at the time, you were issued a lottery number.  He always joked that was the only lottery he ever won.  After spending eight years in the Air Force as an aircraft electrician and a recruiter at headquarters, he retired with full military honors and 100% disability benefits.  He returned home and worked as an electrician, a sheriff’s deputy at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and, later in years, retired as a safety manager. Services are Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 11:00, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church followed by interment at Lake Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Lonnie Preston SheltonIII, Conly Shelton, Shawn Cook, Fred Barnard, Mike Blanchard, and Mohammad (Meaux) Khabazi.  Honorary pallbearers are Bennett and Barrett Waguespack, Father John Lambert, and Noe Perez. *Due to Covid -19 restrictions, there cannot be a viewing and the casket will remain closed.  All attending must wear a mask.
