Jerry Wiley Cannon

Jerry Wiley Cannon, 84, of Gonzales went to be with His Lord and Savior on January 7th, 2021.

Jerry was born on March 5th, 1936 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Joseph and Bertha Cannon. He was a 1953 graduate of Baton Rouge High School and attended Louisiana State University. On December 1st, 1956 he married the love of his life, Jean Givens of Osyka, MS. Jerry proudly served his country as a Naval Reserve Officer for 8 years. He was a member of Local 995 Electrical Union, and worked as an electrician for several years before becoming a residential building contractor.  In 1986, he and Jean opened the Country Kitchen Restaurant until their retirement in 2002. In 2006, they became joint partners in opening Harvest Supermarket. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Gonzales, Louisiana. He had a deep love for traveling the country with Jean, especially to the beautiful mountains of Colorado. He also loved watching sports, painting, reading, working in the yard, bike rides with his wife, and carpentry. His most favorite part of every day was having four o’ clock coffee with his family and friends. His infectious smile lit up the room and his silly humor lightened any mood. As a young man, Jerry was a member of New River Baptist Church, where he served as choir director, Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years. He also attended Household of Faith and The Church at St. Amant.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Cannon, daughters Robyn Cannon, Jana Cannon Capiel, Lori Carmouche (Kelly), and Krystal Kelleher (Ron); Grandchildren Micah Berteau (Shauntell), Nicole Blair (Jason), Matthew Berteau, Chase Kennison, Courtney Ryals (Matt), Lindsay Cornelius (Justin), and Dylan Capiel; Great grandchildren Alexa Burns, Chloe, Brody and Sophie Blair, Ethan Berteau, Abbie, Brady and Cameron Berteau, Ella and Hayes Ryals, and Wyatt and Kate Cornelius; Sister Nell Sims; and numerous extended family. He was proceeded in death by parents Joseph and Bertha Cannon and older brother Donald Cannon.

Services will be held on Wednesday, January 13th, 2021. Visitation will be from 9-11am with the funeral following, officiated by Pastor Ted Sauceman at The Church in St. Amant. Pallbearers for the service will be his seven grandsons, and honorary pallbearers Ethan Berteau and Chuck and Ed Fuller. A graveside burial will be held at Serenity Oaks off Hwy. 73 in Prairieville.
