Buddy King “Lonnie Eugene Mcdaniel”
A ceremony celebrating the life of Buddy King “Lonnie Eugene McDaniel” will be held at Graceworks Church, 16131 LA Highway 44 Prairieville at 6:30 pm on Wednesday September 2, 2020; officiating by Pastor Bill Pruitt.
Gene McDaniel was born on October 5, 1940 in Elizabeth, LA and passed from this life on Friday August 21, 2020 at the age of 79 years, at his residence in Prairieville.
He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1958, where he played running back in football, and two positions running track. He won the district track championship of 3A Central Louisiana running the 160 and 220 dash. He was a son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and lover of Jesus. He loved his family unconditionally and was very involved in Graceworks Church, where for several years he oversaw the NA Meetings.
Radio promotion veteran “Buddy King” as he was known, had a career in the industry that spanned over six decades. He began as a radio DJ and later become a program director, before transitioning into radio promotion. He had recently promoted singles for Bobby Wills, Rachael Turner and CJ Solar, and worked with Alan Young as part of the team that took Solar’s “Airplane” and American Girls” to No. 15 and “Coming My Way” to Top 10 on the MusicRow Country Breakout Radio Chart. The unique industry veteran did not own a cell phone or computer, choosing to work the old school way with pen, paper, and his home phone over modern technology.
God certainly broke the mold when he made Buddy King, who took pride in designing his unique wardrobe. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his great love for the Lord Jesus.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Rachel West McDaniel and sister Elenora McDaniel McCullen.
He is survived by his daughters Yvette McDaniel Cullen and Tyrelle Barlow; grandchildren Chase and Trevor Cullen, Bayli Wilkinson Sanchez (Austin) and Blaine Sylvester; great grandchildren Davis and Harper Sanchez, his ex-wife Wanda Wheat (his high school sweetheart, they married in 1959), also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
