Woodzay “Woody” Joseph Vining

Woodzay “Woody” Joseph Vining passed away July 20, 2020 at the age of 90 from a stroke and Covid-19. He was born on November 1, 1929 on a houseboat in Morgan City, LA. Woody had an incredible life. Growing up, he and his family traveled throughout southern Louisiana making their living trapping, hunting, and fishing. Woody was a man of many talents. In his younger years he was a showman with roller skating, a competitive boat racer, a boat engine mechanic and builder, a tugboat captain, and an entertainer with rope tricks. He was also an incredible master carpenter who built and remodeled many houses in Louisiana. Woody is reunited in Heaven by his wife of 58 years, Ave Lee David, his parents Rudolph and Mary Vining, his brother Milton Vining and sister-in-law Hazel, and sisters and their husbands Verna Crapell and Johnny, Amy Luchsinger and Fred, his baby sister Leonia Eva Vining and Son-in-law Raymond Quibodeaux. Woody leaves behind two sons and their wives Dr. David Vining and Mary, Col. Paul Vining, Ret. and Elaine, and daughters Susan Quibodeaux and Tammy Guilliams and her husband Douglas. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Paul Quibodeaux and wife Opie, Amanda Vining, Birdie Leigh Vining, Savannah Sutton and her husband Craig, Charlene Guilliams and fiance’ Daniel Morrison, Elisabeth Vining, Brandon Guilliams, Caroline Vining and great grandchildren, Gaige Quibodeaux and Sebastian Sutton. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Landmark South Nursing Home and Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge for their compassionate care for Woody throughout the past several years.
