Sandy Chester of Loranger, age 63, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday January 21, 2020. Sandy was born in New Orleans and graduated from Chapelle High School. After high school, she studied art at Delgado, and later in life she earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Southeastern University, an accomplishment that made her family proud. Sandy married Brent Chester on June 9, 1978. In their 42 years of marriage, they lived in Houston, Metairie, and Loranger and made lifelong friends in each place.  Sandy was mother to Molly Chester Calderini and Chase Chester.  In the last few months of her life, Sandy enjoyed helping Molly plan her wedding, and on November 1, 2019, Brent and Sandy danced at that wedding, celebrating the marriage of Molly and Dane Calderini. Sandy’s large, loving family were her source of strength—mother Marie Hensley, father Lige Hensley and brothers and sisters Lige, Mary, Pete, Kathy, and Michael, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Sandy had a calling to help children and families, working as a supervisor for the Hammond branch of CASA (court appointed special advocates) and as a chapter leader and regional director for Compassionate Friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to support one of these organizations in memory of Sandy. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sandy’s life on Saturday, February 8th.  Her memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 620 3rd Street, Independence, Louisiana 70443. Arrangements with Church Funeral Services, St. Amant
