Judith “Judy” Harris

Judith (Judy) Allen Harris was born September 21, 1936 in Rayville, LA. She passed from this life to the next Thursday morning July 18, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Frank S. Harris, Jr., her sons, Frank S. (Trey) Harris, III (Suzanne) and James Allen Harris (Tiffany), grandsons, Casey Allen Harris (Rose) and Jason Webb Harris, granddaughters, Ryann Marie Scott (Alex) and Rebecca Harris Gambino (David), and great-grandson, Charles Anthony Harris Gambino, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, The Rev. Dr. and Mrs. James T. Harris, Sr. (Cora and Jimmie), her brother, James (Jim) T. Harris, Jr., and her sister, Cora Frances (Fran) Curry. Judy was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and lived in UMC parsonages across Louisiana as the daughter of a Methodist pastor. Judy graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge. Judy met the love of her life, Frank, at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport where they both sang and traveled with the world renown Centenary College Choir.  She was a faithful member of P.E.O. (a women’s educational organization) for many years and held several offices in different chapters of P.E.O.  Judy and Frank were charter members of St. Timothy on the Northshore United Methodist Church and longtime residents of Mandeville, LA where Judy managed The Small Mall and co-owned Antiques and Uniques. Judy served on staff at Rayne Memorial United Methodist Church for many years in her adopted home of New Orleans. While at Rayne, she organized the Prime Timer’s group, a ministry serving senior citizens.  She and Frank lived on St. Charles Avenue for many years and hosted Mardi Gras parties every Carnival Season. Judy and Frank relocated to Ponchatoula after Hurricane Katrina and lived there until poor health necessitated a move to Baton Rouge to be near family. She lived with Frank at Old Jefferson Community Care Center for six years; she loved and appreciated all the staff there.  The family thanks the nurses, aides, and administrators who cared for Judy and became extended family; Frank will continue to reside at Old Jefferson.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Old Jefferson Community Care Center Chapel, 8340 Baringer Foreman Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70817. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Don Cottrill presiding.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are preferred to be given, gifts of love received will be used by her family to honor her life and memory.
