Catherine Walsh

“Blessed in the eyes of the Lord is the death of his faithful ones” (Ps. 116.) Catherine Lefeaux Walsh (nee: Mary Catherine Lefeaux) peacefully entered eternal life in the course of her ninety-third year, on Monday, February 4, 2019, at 2:44 AM, surrounded by her family. She was born to Lawrence Ivy Lefeaux, Sr., and Amelie Caillouet, on May 14, 1926, in Port Allen, LA, the eighth of nine children. In 1948, she married Lester T. Walsh, and they became the parents of five children: Richard Thomas (Pam Landry); Miles David; Jessica Catherine (Dawn Henderson); John Lester; and Rebecca Mary, all of whom survive. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Anna Katherine (Artin) Karamian; and April Walsh; and two great-grandsons, Aden and Armen Karamian; and her beloved sister, Carolyn Lefeaux. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Lester T. Walsh; and seven brothers and sisters: Gladys Lefeaux; Annie “Tee” Lefeaux Newman; Andrew Lefeaux; L.I. “Bubber” Lefeaux; William G. “Tuddy” Lefeaux; Georgia Lee Lefeaux Conrad; and Joseph W. Lefeaux. Catherine, or “DeDe,” as she was affectionately known, was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Holy Family Church. She prayed several rosaries and the chaplet of Divine Mercy daily. She devoted her entire life to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, who prayed constantly for her loved ones. She was also an elegant lady who loved decorating and fresh flowers and her beloved pets. A Memorial Mass for the Repose of her soul will be offered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Saturday, March 2, at 11 AM, celebrated by Fr. Miles Walsh. The recitation of the Rosary will precede Mass at 10:30 AM, with visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM. Special thanks to Dr. Susan Richarme, M.D. And deepest gratitude to our brother, John Walsh, for caring for our mother with so much love these past four years. (In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Baton Rouge; or Holy Family Church, Port Allen.) “May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.”
