James “Mac” McCasland, born December 22, 1934 in Queen City, TX, passed away peacefully at home with both of his children by his side. He was a 52 year resident of Gonzales. Mac loved spending time at his camp; hunting, fishing, crawfishing, watching NASCAR, and cooking with family and friends. He was a great story teller with many to share, and what a memory he had! Mac is survived by his children, Debra Leblanc and Douglass McCasland (Monica); seven grandchildren, Sean Templet, Hope Vines (Shane), Douglass “Bubba” McCasland Jr. (Ashley), Cody Thompson (Katie), Brittany Monroe Knapp (John), Jarret “Pete” McCasland, Aaron Penalber (Kerrie); 14 great grandchildren, Christopher, Reid, and Rhet Templet, Tyler and Kaylee Vines, Caden, Makenzie, Trinity McCasland, Kennedi , Coleman Thompson, Logan “Bogie” Knapp, Elliotte Monroe, Devin and Brenan Penalber; one great-great grandchild, Travis Templet; son-in-law of 40 years, Andy Penalber. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ruby Louise Coats McCasland, daughter Marilyn Penalber, parents Pete and Earline McCasland, and brothers Wayne, Harold Lloyd, and Luther Earnest McCasland. Surviving siblings are Margaret Sullivan, Peggy Nash (Rowdy), Tommy McCasland, and Diane McCasland. A celebration of Mac’s life will take place on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 9 am until service at 12 pm at Carpenter’s Chapel, 41181 Hwy 933, Prairieville, La. Pallbearers will be Sean Templet, Douglass McCasland Jr., Devin Penalber, Brenan Penalber, Josh Bleakley and Devon Bleakley. Honorary pallbearers are Aaron Penalber, Cody Thompson, Torrin Williams, Steve Deville, and Jarret McCasland. We would like to thank Legacy Hospice for their role of support and guidance.
