Donna Lynn Johnson Montaldo

Donna Johnson Montaldo, 64, of Baton Rouge, LA was born in Corbin, Kentucky, the youngest of three daughters to Edna Munford and Sidney Pickette Johnson. Her family resided in greater Cincinnatti, Ohio for several years before settling in Old Greenwich, CT. She attended Greenwich schools then boarded at Windsor Mountain School in Lenox, MA. She went on to graduate from Massey Junior College (Fashion Institute of America) in Atlanta. She enjoyed a long career in retail with the late Milton Petrie, nationally known retailer and philanthropist. She then combined her retail experience with her passion for writing to become a journalist for an online audience at About.com, a New York Times Company and as a writer at The Balance, a Media/News Company in New York. She published in Consumer Reports Money Adviser, Reader’s Digest Books, Los Angeles Times, and Chicago Tribune. Donna adored her dogs, her gardens, and pool and was known for her sharp wit and creativity. She cherished her time spent with her family on the beaches of North Carolina where they swam, crabbed, and fished together. Donna was married to Charles Montaldo for thirty-two years, and together they enjoyed hosting memorable football parties as enthusiastic fans of LSU. They delighted in riding floats in the Baton Rouge Historical District’s Spanish Town Mardi Gras Parade and participated in related festivities. Donna was devoted to providing immeasurable support and loving care to Charles following a paralyzing stroke he suffered in 2005. Charles passed away on August 7, 2017, and shortly after, Donna was diagnosed with advanced cancer and died peacefully at the Butterfly Wing Hospice Center in Baton Rouge on November 6, 2017. Donna is survived by her sister Carol Johnson of Bethlehem, CT and Carol’s three adult children, Natalie Springmeyer of Arlington, VA, and Elizabeth Springmeyer and Stuart Springmeyer of Bethlehem, CT. She was warmly regarded by her brothers-in-law George Alexander, Gary Springmeyer, and Irwin Montaldo. In addition to her husband, Charles Montaldo, she was predeceased by her mother, Edna Louise Munford Johnson; her father, Sidney Pickette Johnson; her sister, Alice Sheridan Alexander; and her niece Katharine Sidney Alexander of D.C., age 28, who passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on October 20, 2017. The family will hold a private service at a later date.
